Batman: The Novelization
Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2005-09-01 Summary: An excellent audio book ... Accompanying the release of the 1989 smash hit, Tim Burton movie Batman, Dove Books on Tape released this audio book. Acclaimed author Craig Shaw Gardner took the screenplay for the movie, and did an excellent job of reorganizing the story for audio. Making the project complete, veteran actor Roddy McDowall provided the voice, doing an excellent job of playing the roles of the maniacal Joker, the sultry Vicky Vale, and the serious Batman. Overall, I found this to be an excellent audio book. The story is quite close ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2007-08-07 Summary: Super Reader ... The novelisation of the big 1989 movie. It also includes a photo section in the middle, as lots of those sort of books of the time did. It is competently handled, even asking "Have you ever danced with the devil by the pale moonlight?" Batman faces off with Jack Napier as he becomes the Joker, and discovers the links to his past. He also has to deal with the prying of Vicki Vale. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2004-05-29 Summary: A truly excellent book! ... It's strange. You'd never guess that a book based on a screenplay could be any good, but you'd be wrong in this case. Craig Shaw Gardner, my favorite movie-tie-in author, wrote this book, taking a good screenplay and turning it into a truly masterful, exciting, and touching book! To start off with, the book has whole sections that were cut from the film, giving it more depth and character development. Hmmm.... character development.... there's a whole lot of it. The book truly gets inside the head of everyone, Batman, ...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-12-11 Summary: This One Will Leave You Thinking ... Like all his books it is well written. Grisham brings his characters to life and makes you feel like a silent observer. The story is surrounded around a aging KKK terrorist who is waiting the gas chamber on death row. His lawyer, and estranged grandson, works to the last minute to save his life, while the old man reconsiders the sins of his youth. Great book. What ever your opinion of the death penalty is this novel will get you thinking about the morality of the issue. My only issue with this novel is the ending - ...more
[2] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-12-05 Summary: The Chamber ... As usual John Grisham writes books that are very interesting and readable, by that I mean he writes in language that the average reader can understand. He is my 2nd favorite author, the 1st is books by John Jakes. ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-10-13 Summary: incredible story telling ... "The Chamber" along with "The Testament", are the best Grisham novels I've read so far. I've given 1 through 5 stars on previous Grisham books reviewed and this was one of the deepest, thought-provoking books I've read by this author. I've always been strongly against the death penalty and this book supports that personal conviction more than I thought a novel could. So well written, it's a family story, it's a KKK story, it's a civil rights story it's an overall great story! Highly recommmend! ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-07-14 Summary: The Chamber Review...great! ... A wonderful book although I am late in reading it based on the publication date. It kept me up late reading it and the characters were well written. Slightly disapppointed in the late Rollie appearance which I thought Lee was tied to but never the less Sam protected his family and I sort of liked him at the end and felt bad for him. The beginning of the book was quick moving and I enjoyed the pace. Hats off to John Grisham. Staci ...more

[2] ... Review | "The decision to bomb the office of the radical Jew lawyer was reached with relative ease." So begins Grisham's legal leviathan The Chamber , a 676-page tome that scrutinizes the death penalty and all of its nuances--from racially motivated murder to the cruel and unusual effects of a malfunctioning gas chamber. Adam Hall is a 26-year-old attorney, fresh out of law school and working at the best firm in Chicago. Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-08-29 Summary: Good condition. ... When I received this book in the mail, it was packaged neatly and carefully. I really appreciate the way it was handled. It looked almost like new. There was scuffing barely visible where the plastic of the jacket was rubbing against the covers of other books, but it was only visible if you looked hard enough. It is, after all, a first edition. All in all, great shape. I was very pleased with my purchase. :) ...more
[2] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-11-04 Summary: Perfectly written ... I am a new reader of Thomas Harris. I had seen the movie adaptation of 'The Silence of the Lambs' when it first came out, but had never read any of the books. I just finished Hannibal, and I thought it was excellent. At first I was amazed I was feeling sympathy for such a horrible monster, but as I read, it began to make sense. We are all capable of evil on some level, regardless of how that evil plays out; lying, stealing, murder. What makes this book so powerful is it allows you to live in the mind of each character, ...more
[3] Rating: 5 Date: 2009-12-28 Summary: Thrilling story ... I am reading Hannibal for the second time and find it just as thrilling as my first encounter with Hannibal Lecter. I am suprised by the negative reviews that this story has received. The plot is exciting, and I enjoyed the book's ending far more than the one the movie left us with. Is Hannibal a monster? It was easy to say yes after Red Dragon and The Silence of the Lambs (Hannibal Lector). Now that we can step into the mind of Lecter, the question is a little harder to answer. He is a complex and brilliant character. ...more
[4] Rating: 4 Date: 2009-07-23 Summary: The Entire Story ... The movie was pretty good but there were some inconsistencies. The book has the details and creates a better 'visual' than the movie. ...more
Editorial Reviews [1] ... Product Description | You remember Hannibal Lecter: gentleman, genius, cannibal. Seven years have passed since Dr. Lecter escaped from custody. And for seven years he's been at large, free to savor the scents, the essences, of an unguarded world. But intruders have entered Dr. Lecter's world, piercing his new identity, sensing the evil that surrounds him. For the multimillionaire Hannibal left maimed, for a corrupt Italian policeman, and for FBI agent Clarice Starling, who once stood before Lecter and who has...more
[2] ... Review | Horror lit's head chef Harris serves up another course in his Hannibal "The Cannibal" Lecter trilogy, and it's a pièce de résistance for those with strong stomachs. In the first book, Red Dragon (filmed as Manhunter ), Hannibal diabolically helps the FBI track a fascinating serial killer. (Takes one to know one.) In The Silence of the Lambs , he advises fledgling FBI manhunter Clarice Starling, then makes a bloody, brilliant escape. Years later, posing as scholarly Dr. Fell, curator of a grand family's...more

Customer Reviews [1] Rating: 4 Date: 2008-06-20 Summary: An Extended Look at Guilt, Remorse, Punishment, and Redemption ... If your idea of a good book is one where there is lots of action and fascinating twists and turns of plot complications pop up on every page, you shouldn't go anywhere near The Chamber. If, however, you would like to gain a visceral sense of the issues around capital punishment, The Chamber is a well-constructed fictional treatment. It won't be a pretty or a pleasant experience, but neither is capital punishment. I remember as a youngster carefully following the case of Caryl Chessman, a convicted robber and rapist ...more
